Ancient Literature/ Jan. 5

It was nice to see you all today. Please finish epics and get those to me in a clean form.

Read books 1-7 in The Odyssey.
Watch for the following:

Odysseys' character
Qualities of a hero
customs of different peoples
forms of government
weapons
roles of women
attitudes toward life and death

Vocabulary:
abase- to lower in estimation
abdicate- to give up (royal power)
abet- to aid, promote, or encourage the commission of an offense
abhorrence- act of destiny
abject- sunk to a low condition
abjure- to recant or renounce under oath
ablution-washing or cleansing
abominate- to hate violently
abrade- to wear away the surface by friction
abridge- to shorten in words
