American Literature/ 1/12

It was great to see some of you today. I missed the rest of you. If you need to ask me anything, just give me a call.

Read Chapters 5-10 in Rifles for Watie.
Do a little research on Bushwhackers and the Medal of Honor. Just be ready to discuss them.
Vocabulary:
abase- to lower in estimation
abdicate- to give up royal powers
abet- to aid, promote, or encourage the commission of an offense
abhorrence- act of detesting
abjure- to recant or renounce under oath
ablution-to wash or cleanse (especially the body)
abominate- to hate violently
abrade- to wear away the surface by friction
abridge- to make shorter in words
