American Literature/ September 8

Thank you all for being prepared for class today. I would love it if I talked a little less and you did a little more. I will look forward to that.

Please read Chapters 10-16 of Uncle Tom's Cabin.
Choose three new characters and write a brief description of each.
Keep in mind our definitions of plot and theme. Watch for any theme that Harriett B. Stowe
had in mind for her novel.

Vocabulary words are as follows:
1. vestige- trace
2. tea-rusks- tea- bread( crispy, dry bread)
3. dodgers- a cake that is cooked as a dumpling
4. congenial- pleasant
5. facetious- witty
6. capering-frolic
7. intercede- mediate
8. abolitionists- person devoted to abolishing slavery
9. dilated- enlarged
10. adieus- farewell
