Read Chapters 25-33 in Uncle Tom's Cabin.
Choose one topic and write a 600 word essay. Bring your rough draft to class and we will edit together. Chandler, if you would like to email yours to me, we will edit yours also and give you our feedback. ( Chandler is our friend in Japan taking the same course by correspondence!)
Your essay should be in third person and use specifics from the book.
Here are the possible topics:
1. Discuss Stowe's use of opposites and the techniques of contrast in UTC.
2. What does the role of circumstances play in UTC?
3. In what way does the author present the incompatibility of slavery with Christianity?
4. Compare and contrast Tom's owners in the novel. (you will have to finish the book to answer this one)
5. Discuss the role of Eva in the novel. How does she contribute to the novel's message?
