Tuesday Morning

Thanks to Mrs. Malphrus for being with us today.  We were grateful for your presence!

Vocabulary:  Quiz next week.

1. fallow: cultivated land that is not seeded for one or more growing seasons.
2. fastidious: giving careful attention to detail
3. foster: help grow
4. garner: store grain; assemble or get together
5. generic: any product that can be sold without a brand name
6. glib: marked by a lack of intellectual depth
7. grotto: small cave
8. hiatus: an interruption in time
9. hone: make perfect or complete
10. hinder: put at a disadvantage


Literature: Write a 700-800 essay on Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter. Choose from one of the following:

1. What was harder in the book, public or private guilt? Give specific examples.
2. Compare the present view of adultery to that of a Puritan society. How is it exhibited in The Scarlet Letter?
3. What was the significance of "the scarlet letter"? What did it mean to Hester? What did it mean to the community? Give specific examples from the text.

 This will be your rough draft, but it must be a complete paper.

******* We will look at "The Birthmark" in class. If you have a copy in your book, please bring it.
 I will have some handouts.

US History:
Read Chapter 4 of BJU US History. Answer the questions for each Section Review.
Also, go online and listen to the sermon called, "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God".
