Vocabulary: Quiz next week.

1. abjure: to formally reject a belief
2. abrogate: to abolish
3. acumen: keen insight  (discernment)
4. antebellum: before the war ( usually the US Civil War)
5. auspicious: promising success
6. abstemious: moderate in eating and drinking
7. belie: to be in contradiction ( misrepresent)
8. bellicose: eager to fight
9. bowdlerize: to remove objectionable material from a written work
10. chicanery: artful deception


Literature:  Read Chapters 3-10 in  The Scarlet Letter. Keep in mind our question about Hester. Is she the first American heroine?

US History:
Read Chapter 2 of BJU US History. Answer all section review questions.

Research: Find the names of the 8 Lord Proprietors of SC.
