Vocabulary: Exam on all 50 Greek and Latin roots. You will be responsible for meaning, origin and derivatives.
Marshall: I will quiz on the definitions of all Latin words.

Literature: We will begin Emerson's Conduct of Life next week. I will provide handouts.
This week: write a 600-800 work of fiction imaging yourself as part of the village in The Old Man and the Sea. Include the following points in your story:

1. The old man's relationship with the sea.
2. Santiago's pride or lack of it
3. Santiago's success.

Thursday a.m. Ancient History and Literature (Bluffton)

I was excited for all to be together again this morning. I hope that we are all ready for this season of learning.

Vocabulary: Review 50 Greek and Latin roots. The exam will be in a couple of weeks. They all listed on a separate blog post.

Literature: Please make sure that you have an unabridged copy of The Aeneid by Vergil.
Write a 700- 800 word essay on The Odyssey.  The essay should analyze the vengeance in the epic. Approach your essay from the point of view of Telemachus, Odysseus, and Poseidon. Was the reaction of the character important to the outcome of the story? What do experts have to say about the subject? Spend at least 5 hours on the essay and research. Please use specific from the epic. The rough draft is due January 16.

History: Make a practice test for Chapter 25-42 in SWB's Ancient History. We will share them in class. Test on the these chapters will be January 23. Please send me an email requesting any missing study sheets.

Feb 4 is the due date of your history project. Please come with your topic decision for our next class.

For cars: Red for Latin and Green for Greek.


Literature: Please make sure that you have an unabridged copy of The Aeneid by Vergil for class.
