Pilgrim Progress Prompts

Your paper is not due until later, but you may want to start this essay and have a rough draft option.

 Write a 600-800 word essay on one of the following. MLA format is required. Please use examples from the work and any outside source you may find.


1. How do the allegorical names contribute to the plot of Pilgrim's Progress? If the characters had real names, would it change the story?

2. In the second part of the book, Great-heart kills three giants: Maul,
Despair, and Slay-good. What does each giant represent in the allegory and why must each be destroyed? Use scripture to support your statements.

Tuesday Morning

Merry Christmas. I hope you will all take time to worship the God of Christmas.

Literature: You do not have a lot of homework. I will accept "Our Town" papers until Friday.

 US History:No history reading.

Please make sure you come to class with a copy of The Old Man and the Sea.

Thank you to Mrs. McDaniel for joining us in class.

Vocabulary: Please continue to review the Greek and Latin roots.

Literature: Read 50 more pages of Pilgrim's Progress. Also, create a timeline of the journey of Christina's wife and family to compare to his.
You guys did a great job on the illustrations today.

Next week is our Christmas Party. We will have regular class for about one hour and then stop for the party. Please bring a small snack to share and a white elephant gift if you would like to participate in the gift exchange. We plan to stay until 4 o'clock.

Vocabulary: Please continue to study your vocabulary words.

Literature:  Write a 600-800 word rough draft of one of the following: ( MLA)

1. Was Thornton Wilder's view of small town living positive or negative? Use specifics from "Our Town" to defend your argument.

2. Discuss the character of the stage manager in the play. How did he fit into the life of the play? Use specific examples from the play.


US History: Test on Chapters 7 and 8. You must also be able to write the Preamble to the Constitution. Use your study sheet.

We will meet at our regular time for class. If you would like to bring snacks to share, that is fine.

Wednesday girls

Vocabulary: Please continue to review your Greek and Latin roots.

Literature: I know we are all getting weary of Mr. Bunyan, but please read 50 more pages of Pilgrim's Progress. As you read the journey of Christian's wife and family, please make a timeline to compare with Christian's journey.


Next week will be our last class before Christmas. We are going to meet for an hour of class and make our way to Chick-fil-a to share a holiday lunch. Mrs. Raisch has offered to drive with me to transport everyone. All moms are invited to join us. I will contact all of you soon.

Literature: Answer all questions on study sheet for Act III of "Our Town".

Rough draft review for those who turn in papers next week.

Literature: Read the remainder of Act I and Act II of "Our Town". Complete the study questions you received in class.

US History: Read Chapter 8 and answer all Section review questions.
