Ancient History and Literature Tues/Thurs November 30

What a nice day of school! I felt like it was so productive. Thank you all so much for your hard work. Please keep your noses to the grindstone as we move toward the Christmas break.

A few days to remember:

Dec. 16- in-class essay on The Iliad
Dec. 16- Caroling party

Grammar: Test on nouns

History: Read Chapters 39-42 in SWB's Ancient History.
Work on your projects.
Literature: Read Books 16 and 17 of The Iliad.
Review vocabulary.

I had a great time watching Helen of Troy with you all today. Hopefully knowing some details of the story will help your reading.

Please read books 2-7 of The Iliad.
Do some research on why the story is called the Iliad.
Work on your epics if you are able.
Review vocabulary.

Please remember that we will meet for two hours on Thursday before the field trip. If you are not attending The Tempest, you will finish at 11:30.

Literature: Read books 11 and 12 of the Iliad.
Use your character list for reference.

History: Make notes on Chapters 34,35 and 36 of SWB's Ancient History.
Review the specs for the history project. Due Dec. 16.

Please make sure that your mom has your grade reports.

History: Please make sure that you have completed Chapters 27-31 of SWB's Ancient History.
I will have a study sheet available for these chapters in class.


Literature: Read to page 49 in The Iliad.
Work on the completion of epics!


Field trip: Nov. 18 we will be traveling to Bob Jones University to see Shakespeare's The Tempest. We will leave CBC at noon and arrive back very late that evening.
If you are interested in going, please get $12.00 to Mrs. Fowler to reserve your ticket.
Mrs. Christy Mixson's class will be joining us and several moms have offered to drive.
Please let me know ASAP if you plan to go. I think it will be a great day!

Complete the study sheet for the Epic of Gilgamesh.
Research Homer, the author of The Iliad. Read about his life and works.
Work on your epics as much as possible.

Bring your copy of the Iliad to class.

American Literature/ November 3

Please review the first 20 words on your vocabulary review sheet.
It will be best to review 20 at a time.

Write a (500 word minimum) essay comparing and contrasting Tom from Uncle Tom's Cabin and Henry from Red Badge of Courage. Please spend ample time on this assignment.

Research Irene Hunt the author of Across Five Aprils.
